'MetaMask is a self-custodial crypto wallet (browser extension and mobile app) built by ConsenSys. It lets you hold and use Ethereum and other EVM-chain assets, and it connects you to dApps by asking you to approve transactions and signatures from inside the wallet. MetaMask does not store your Secret Recovery Phrase or private keys (it encrypts them locally on your device), and it “reaches” different blockchains through network infrastructure called RPC endpoints (JSON-RPC servers). By default MetaMask uses Infura for blockchain connectivity, but you can add/switch networks by entering different custom RPC URLs (including your own node or another provider).

How to Install MetaMask

1. Go to the official MetaMask site Visit metamask.io/download to ensure you're downloading from a trusted source.

2. Download MetaMask

  • Desktop: Click "Install MetaMask for [Browser Name]" (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge).
  • Mobile: Tap "Download for iOS" or "Download for Android" based on your device.

3. Install and Open MetaMask

  • Follow your device's instructions to install the app or browser extension.
  • Open the app or click the MetaMask icon in your browser.

4. Set Up MetaMask

  • Tap "Get Started" and choose "Create a Wallet".
  • Create a strong password:

This password will protect the wallet in the device where you are installing it. Not to be confused with the 12 word recovery phrase, or wallet seed that can be used to generate all your private keys.

5. Confirm Setup

  • Complete the recovery phrase confirmation.

Metamask User's Guide

Metamask has 5 main functions:

  • Buy & Sell: That takes you to the portfolio.metamask.io website.
  • Swap: That you use to trade tokens using Metamask network. NOT Uniswap DEX
  • Bridge: Used to send assets from one blockchain to another
  • Send:Just sends from one address to another.
  • Receive: Gives your address and QR version for sharing.

  2. Click on the drop down menu arrow
  3. Use the two words hidden by the rectangle to complete the quest.|

Metamask not Loading?

If you encounter problems loading the Metamask wallet browser extension.

Try disconnecting the extension and turning it back on again.

Go to manage extensions and disconnect it.
