Quest: Blockchain Explorer Introduction

As mentioned before, the blockchain is a public database.

  • A blockchain explorer allows you to view and analyze any transaction recorded on the blockchain.

We will examine a famous transaction to explore some features of the metadata included with every transaction.

First Mint Transaction

This is the transaction hash of the first Mint transaction (a transaction where a block was created):

000000000019d6689c085ae165831e934ff763ae46a2a6c172b3f1b60a8ce26f

Use the Block-Chain Explorer to find the transaction where the "Genesis Block" was created. Notice that the Blockchain Explorer finds two transactions with that address.

One in the Bitcoin blockchain, and another in the "Bitcoin Cash" blockchain.

Bitcoin Cash is a "Fork" of the original Bitcoin blockchain, it shares all history up to certain block, where a group of miners decided to continue working on another blockchain.

The other blockchain has no value in the bitcoin network, it is a separate cryptocurrency. The Genesis block in Bitcoin is this one:

First Mint Transaction

Task
